Bio:

Josh Connell (b. 1980) is a self-taught artist living and working in Quinte Ontario, Canada. He draws human beings with photographic precision using charcoal and graphite. For over twenty years he has worked with exceptional children in group homes and in schools which he feels has afforded him a unique perspective on the human condition. Connell is fascinated by the human animal and hopes to use his art to explore and document the species honestly, both for its light and for its darkness.

 Artist Statement:

With my work I am attempting to examine what it is to be human, to explore the human condition and document what it looks like to be human in the 21st century. My goal is never to re-create a photograph but rather to use the approximate one hundred hours I am in contact with the work to infuse it with life. It becomes more then just a drawing for me, it becomes an experience, one that I hope can later be translated to the viewer. When the right viewer finds the right piece, there is connection. And perhaps connection is art in its purest form.
